Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love Your Life comes a humorous and heartwarming novel about family, set against the backdrop of the most fabulous party you've ever snuck into。

It's been over two years since Effie's beloved parents got divorced, destroying the image of the happy, loving childhood she thought she had。 Since then, she's become estranged from her father and embarked on a feud with his hot (and much younger) girlfriend, Krista。 And now, more earth-shattering news: Greenoaks, the rambling Victorian country house Effie called home her whole life, has been sold。

When Krista decides to throw a grand "house cooling" party, Effie is originally left off the guest list--and then receives a last-minute "anti-invitation" (maybe it's because she called Krista a gold-digger, but Krista totally deserved it, and it was mostly a joke anyway)。 Effie declines, but then remembers a beloved childhood treasure is still hidden in the house。 Her only chance to retrieve it is to break into Greenoaks while everyone is busy celebrating。 As Effie sneaks around the house, hiding under tables and peeping through trapdoors, she realizes the secrets Greenoaks holds aren't just in the dusty passageways and hidden attics she grew up exploring。 Watching how her sister, brother, and dad behave when they think no one is looking, Effie overhears conversations, makes discoveries, and begins to see her family in a new light。 Then she runs into Joe--the love of her life, who long ago broke her heart, and who's still as handsome and funny as ever--and even more truths emerge。

But will Effie act on these revelations? Will she stay hidden or step out into the party and take her place with her family? And truthfully, what did she really come back to Greenoaks for? Over the course of one blowout party, Effie realizes that she must be honest with herself and confront her past before she'll ever be able to face her future。

This was lovely! I'm not usually one for chick lit (and I do not like that term), but this was really enjoyable and relatable。 It's a novel about family relationships - and accepting that parents are only human too (getting divorced, finding new partners, making mistakes)。 The writing style is quirky and lighthearted and very funny in places, while also making readers feel for the characters as they are confronted with some pretty harsh truths and realities。 I loved the main plot too - the main This was lovely! Fun read。 Family drama, somethings aren’t as they seem, yet how it should be。

The Party Crasher is a standalone from Kinsella about family drama, tension and secrets you may hear if you hide out in a room。 The Talbots are selling their family home and hosting a house-cooling party only Effie hasn't been invited。 She desperately wants to get some childhood treasures from the house so decides to don a disguise and sneak in whilst the party is in full flow。 Her plan doesn't go quite as smoothly as she had hoped as she ends up running into an ex-boyfriend, pretending to be a The Party Crasher is a standalone from Kinsella about family drama, tension and secrets you may hear if you hide out in a room。 The Talbots are selling their family home and hosting a house-cooling party only Effie hasn't been invited。 She desperately wants to get some childhood treasures from the house so decides to don a disguise and sneak in whilst the party is in full flow。 Her plan doesn't go quite as smoothly as she had hoped as she ends up running into an ex-boyfriend, pretending to be a ghost and discovering family secrets。 This is full of the glorious tension that Kinsella is so good at。 I've been chuckling away whilst reading on my breaks。 I still had the final 15 pages to go when I finished my break yesterday and had to tear myself away to go back to work。 I've loved Kinsella's work for years and it is such a joy to be able to read new work from her。 Thank you so much to Transworld for sending me a copy。 。。。more

4。5 stars, rounding up because it was enjoyable and had me laughing out loud, exactly what I want from a Sophie Kinsella novel

As cute as all Sophie kinsella books always are。 British messy family life that resonates with all of us。 Divorce, break ups, surprise pregnancy, romance and forgiveness-what more can you ask for。 They are at times funny and awkward and others heartbreaking and gut wrenching。 I can count on this author to bring me through a range of emotions with her books and come out smiling at the end。 Always an enjoyable read。

3。5 stars。 This is classic Kinsella; comical with a cast of endearing characters。 Unfortunately, the last third of the book fell a little flat。 Some of the conflict was resolved too early so it made me wonder why I should continue reading。

Slow Start, But Worth It At first I worried this was a klunker。 Yes, even great Authors occasionally produce one。 I stuck with it thru the early schmarm and shtick and was rewarded。 Fun, LOL, silly, and GOOD!

4。5 ⭐️ Although it was a bit of a slow start and some language throughout, I absolutely LOVED the storyline and the end/epilogue was the cherry on top。 Such a delightful read!

I've read most everything from Sophie Kinsella and this was so-so。 I didn't have any belly laughs or tons of engagement with the characters。 But it was an enjoyable read。 I've read most everything from Sophie Kinsella and this was so-so。 I didn't have any belly laughs or tons of engagement with the characters。 But it was an enjoyable read。 。。。more

I've read a few of Sophie Kinsella's early books, which I enjoyed, so I was super excited to get the opportunity to read her latest novel as a digital ARC。 I was expecting a light and funny read, which it was, but I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it was full of heart。 If you enjoy books about family, growing up and second chances, then I would definitely recommend this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ read ! Very warm and sweet with some great funny moments。 My favorite Kinsella book since I've Got Your Number。 I love old houses so that was a plus, and as someone with really strong memories and a lot of childhood nostalgia, I related to the main character。 (I know some people can't roll with a ditzier MC, but as kind of a ditz myself, I can go with it!) This is the Sophie Kinsella book I've liked the least。 I found Effie deeply unlikeable and childish, which made it hard to root for her。 (I mean, you are in your mid 20s! So your parents are selling your childhood home。 Get over it!) I'm also just not keen on childhood sweetheart storylines personally。 This is the Sophie Kinsella book I've liked the least。 I found Effie deeply unlikeable and childish, which made it hard to root for her。 (I mean, you are in your mid 20s! Cute, “fluff” story about a single woman, Effie, who is estranged from her father and his current wife。Learning that they are throwing one last party at the family home before they sell it, Effie remembers something she had left there and would like it back。 Retrieving the object(s) without being seen is the basis for the story and what happens after。

Oh Sophie… I keep reading your books thinking I will enjoy them the same way I enjoyed them when I was a teenager。 But alas seems like I’ve moved on。 Yet I still cling to this idea that I should buy your books。 Oh well。 don’t get me wrong I did enjoy this to some extent。 But the depth of the characters, the whole story’s premise and the ending were all just shallow。 Then again I still finished it and found a few genuine moments in between the rest so I guess it’s not a waste。 But seriously, dear Oh Sophie… I keep reading your books thinking I will enjoy them the same way I enjoyed them when I was a teenager。 But alas seems like I’ve moved on。 Yet I still cling to this idea that I should buy your books。 Oh well。 don’t get me wrong I did enjoy this to some extent。 But the depth of the characters, the whole story’s premise and the ending were all just shallow。 Then again I still finished it and found a few genuine moments in between the rest so I guess it’s not a waste。 But seriously, dear future self, please don’t buy these books anymore as you just don’t click with them the way you used to。 Then again… good plane read, good read if you want to ignore reality for a bit, so can’t give it less than 2 stars… 。。。more

Such a good read。。 I have been a big fan of Sophie Kinsella for a long time。。 Her books are funny and smart。 The Party Crasher is as good as the others。。 Effie。 Sis a quirky girl who still isn’t over her parents divorce。。 It’s been 2 years and out of all her siblings she is the only one who seems to be heart broken over the separation。。 As it turns out her father and his girlfriend (a much younger woman) are throwing a party to celebrate selling Effie’s family home。 She can’t even believe her fa Such a good read。。 I have been a big fan of Sophie Kinsella for a long time。。 Her books are funny and smart。 The Party Crasher is as good as the others。。 Effie。 Sis a quirky girl who still isn’t over her parents divorce。。 It’s been 2 years and out of all her siblings she is the only one who seems to be heart broken over the separation。。 As it turns out her father and his girlfriend (a much younger woman) are throwing a party to celebrate selling Effie’s family home。 She can’t even believe her father would do this。 Forget that he is dating this younger woman。。 he is now going to sell the home and move with her to Portugal to open a restaurant。 Effie decides she will not go to this party。 She thinks this will make her father rethink his decisions。。 No such luck。。 Now that Effie said she wasn’t going to the party how can she show up? It turns out that she is the party crasher。。 It is hysterical how she shows up, hides abs then gets found out by an ex boyfriend and her sister。。 She gets them in on her plan and things just get funnier。。 The world is so crazy right now and I love that I could escape to this book。。 I love a good wacky family and this family is it。 but as wacky they are, they love each other and will defend each other against anything。。 The ending is so sweet and, I can’t wait to read Kinsella’s next book。 What a smart writer。。 always such a pleasure to read/review one of her books。。 。。。more

This was a decent book but not as funny as some of her past books。 It’s an ok story and a quick read if you are searching for a way to spend a quiet afternoon。

A quirky house, flawed characters, and laugh out loud humor made The Party Crasher a delight to read。 This was a quick read with a predictable ending, but it had enough surprises along the way to keep it from being stale。
